AWS Artifact - Hands On

Introduction

This guide provides a brief walkthrough of the AWS Artifact console. We will explore its primary functions by navigating through the "Agreements," "Reports," and "Notification settings" sections to understand how each contributes to managing account compliance and accessing critical documentation.

We will begin in the AWS Artifact console to see what it does.

1. Reviewing Agreements

First, we will explore the agreements section, which is used to manage compliance documents for your account or organization.

  1. Click on "Agreements" in the navigation panel.
    • Explanation: This page displays the agreements for our account, or if our account is part of an organization, it will show them for the entire organization.

  1. Let's have a look at some of the account agreements. For example, find the "Australian Notifiable Data Breach Addendum."

    • Explanation: As you can see, right now it's "inactive." From this page, we can accept these agreements or download them directly. This can help with your compliance, based on whether you need it or not, of course.

2. Accessing Reports

Next, we will look at the reports section, which provides access to compliance reports from both AWS and third-party vendors.

  1. Click on "Reports."
    • Explanation: This section contains reports coming either from AWS or from third parties. As you can see, we have over 200 reports from AWS.
  2. Let's look for a specific type of report. For example, if I look for "SOC," I can have a look at the SOC compliance from AWS.

  1. For any of these reports, like the SOC compliance report, we can go ahead and quickly download it.

  • Explanation: This allows you to download the report directly to support your compliance and audit efforts within your company.
  1. Note the availability of third-party reports.

  • Key Learning:

If I had subscribed to third-party Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) through the AWS Marketplace, I could see their reports directly here within Artifact, which is nice.

3. Understanding Notification Settings

Finally, let's review the notification settings, which allow administrators to stay informed about new reports.

  1. Navigate to the "Notification settings" section.
    • Explanation: You are able to set up notifications here. This is a bit more complicated than just a few clicks. As you can see, an administrator can set up Artifact notifications to be notified whenever a new report or compliance report is sent by AWS or third parties into Artifact.
